If you wish to have merchandise produced for resale for distribution throughout the United States, contact Matt Terwilliger in Intercollegiate Athletics at 510-642-8418 or mterwill [at] berkeley [dot] edu. You will subsequently be referred to the Collegiate Licensing Company which handles the University's domestic trademark licensing program.

UC Berkeley Promotional Items-Creation and Approval Process

If you are a UC Berkeley student, faculty or staff member wishing to create a t-shirt, cap, pen or other UC Berkeley-related item for a fundraiser or departmental/group giveaway, OMBO requires that you purchase your designated item from a licensed manufacturer. In order to accomplish this, all individuals, organizations, departments and companies, both internal and external, must obtain prior approval before producing any product that will display UC Berkeley marks or images.

The following four-step process will assist you with the planning and design, and approval and selection of a licensed vendor to produce your promotional item:

1. Contact OMBO for a list of licensed manufacturers, screen printers or local retailers, and for assistance in planning your product, graphic design, and distribution channels.
2. To place an order, complete the Trademark Use Request Form and submit it to OMBO.
3. OMBO will respond promptly with either an approval or a reason for disapproval of your application for Internal Trademark Use. If your application is approved, you may proceed with the ordering process. If your request is denied, one reason for rejection of your application may be that your chosen manufacturer does not hold a license to produce UC Berkeley merchandise. You have the option to select a different manufacturer who holds a license or your preferred manufacturer may choose to apply for licensing. If the quality of their product is approved, OMBO will grant your preferred manufacturer a license.
4. Upon receiving approval, you may order your products according to the standard purchasing guidelines, and proceed with your approved distribution plan.
